Why Ekkó

You really learn by designing and producing trawl doors in thousands. This teaches you that a certain component can’t be like this, but has to be like that.

Why Ekkó

Smári Jósafatsson is the inventor of the Ekkó trawl doors

Smári has been making and repairing trawl doors for over 50 years.

More productivity

This is one reasons why Ekkó is one of the best

Each piece of Ekkó is the way it is because of that experience and each weld is a work of art.

Smári has been making and repairing trawl doors for over 50 years. Ekkó is the result of this accumulated experience. This knowledge is fundamental to the design and the production of Ekkó trawl doors. Each piece of Ekkó is the way it is because of that experience and each weld is a work of art. This is one reasons why Ekkó is one of the best.

There’s a lot to be learned from repairing trawl doors.

When you really learn is by designing and producing trawl doors in thousands.

Experience

Smári Jósafatsson has been designing, selling and marketing trawl doors for decades

It’s a process of tank testing, sea trials around the world, adjusting and fixing...

back for more tank tests and sea trials, then putting all his engineering expertise and experience into producing the full-size Ekkó trawl doors.
This is why Ekkó is among the best trawl doors in the world.
I can help you do better!

There’s a lot to be learned from repairing trawl doors. When you really learn is by designing and producing trawl doors in thousands. This teaches you that a certain component can’t be like this, but has to be like that. This weld has to be done with low heat. That weld needs to be built up. This is what comes with experience – where the doors need more flexibility, where more strength is needed, and how to use the right materials in the right places.

This is what Smári has done with the Ekkó trawl doors.

Thousands of doors refers to Smári’s having started work while a boy with his father Jósafat Hinriksson, designer of the Poly-Ice trawl doors. He learned about steel from his father, and he had learned from his blacksmith father, who had sailed as engineer on both local boats and English trawlers. Jósafat followed in his father’s footsteps, as ship’s engineer before establishing the company that carried his name, J Hinriksson. As well as trawl doors, the company produced blocks, rollers, winches, swivels and much more. Making blocks and swivels, and the right way of heating and cooling taught Smári a lot about steel.
